Well, we’re here: The dog days of summer have arrived. Back to school is what many are talking about, but there’s a couple weeks left of summer and plenty of ways to enjoy them here in Jonesboro, Paragould, and surrounding areas. We’re here to help you do so. 

In honor of National Sandwich Month, we covered the best sandwiches in Northeast Arkansas and where to find them. In honor of National Book Lovers Day, our shop feature is all about where to shop for books. And just because we wanted to, our play feature is about Float Trips Near NEA.  

There are loads of fun events coming up, like First Fridays at the Forum featuring Don Howard on August 6th and the final Downtown After Hours in Paragould featuring Spencer Herren on August 13th. We’d also like to let you know we finally did something we’ve talked about doing forever: We launched Explore MOR Kids! We’ve now got a page on the site to hold information specifically for where to eat, shop, and play with your kids, plus a calendar for kid-specific events. If you’ve got a young one, be sure to check it out. 

And now for the National Days we love highlighting – there are some dang good ones this month. 

August 1 is National Friendship Day so call or text your bestie(s) and let them know you appreciate them. If you really want to wow them, take them out to dinner or hand write a letter throwing it back to some of your favorite memories together. 

August 5 is National IPA Day and we highly recommend celebrating this one with friends! Get what you need at Mr. T’s Riverside and host the celebration at your house. Don’t forget snacks! 

August 6 is International Beer Day – and okay, we better go ahead and tell you there’s lots of alcohol-related national days this month. What can we say, everyone has their favorite drink and apparently, they all deserved different days ... Stock up for your favorite (or for all of them, no judgment here) at Mr. T’s Riverside. 

August 7 is National Play Outside Day and we 100% support this but it’s dang hot so please remember to stay hydrated! Better yet, drink water AND play on the water. Ideas for nearby float trips are in our August play feature. 

August 8 is (and we’re not sure it’s worth celebrating but it is amusing) National Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbors Porch Day.  

August 9 is National Book Lovers Day. Celebrate, celebrate, celebrate! For ideas on where, check out our shop feature. 

August 10 – National Lazy Day 

August 13 is National Prosecco Day. I think you know where you can get some! Go see our friends at Mr. T’s Riverside. 

August 16 is National Rum Day. Do we really need to say it? Okay, suppose we will, get your rum for your piña colada or whatever it is you’re into at Mr. T’s Riverside. 

August 17 is National Thrift Shop Day – check out our Thrifty Feature from last fall! 

August 18 is National Pinot Noir Day. I think there’s a place called Mr. T’s Riverside that can help you out? They’re open EVERY DAY. Yes, every day! 

August 19 is National Potato Day and we gotta say, there’s only one appropriate place to celebrate such a thing. Visit Hyde Park Café in Downtown Paragould and choose from a variety of loaded spuds.  

August 20 is National Radio Day and if you want the chance to win $99.30 from Jill @ 99.3, send in your voice memo about why you love listening to one of our stations (Jill @ 99.3, Jack 107.1 or iRock 103.7). Deadline to enter is August 15th. 

August 25 is National Whiskey Sour Day and let us just say if you aren’t using egg white, you’re doing it wrong. Follow us on social if you want to see our recipe for a whiskey sour and, of course, get your whiskey from Mr. Ts Riverside. 

August 26 is National Dog Day. This is obviously the most important national day of the year, right?! 

August 28 is National Red Wine Day and since it’s pretty dang expensive to fly to Italy to celebrate, maybe just stop by Mr. T’s Riverside to get what you need.  

August 30 is National Beach Day and did you know you can celebrate that locally?! You can. Check out the beach at Crowley’s Ridge State Park and bask in the sunshine or take a refreshing swim. The beach is open from Wednesday through Sunday from noon until 6:00p.m. and it's just four dollars per person.
